Cody! I just want to tell you that as a survivor of mental emotional and physical abuse from a “mentor” that I trusted

I’m so proud of you for sharing your story! Thank you for continuing to raise awareness and support for situations like this. Thank you for showing how important it is to discover exactly who it is that we are trusting and why we are doing it.

I’m sending healing and support for you each and every day

It means the world to see someone real, that’s breaking down the mechanics of it all.

Also inspires me to do so. Thank you :)

This person is not just a narcissist. They are a full on psychopath. It makes me so angry people like this are out and about trying to isolate and control others lives. That’s what they thrive on. Otherwise they have nothing. Keep sharing it’s so brave. Can you maybe do an article on how to release fear of your abuser? Bc I want to speak about mine but they are very power driven and have a view point of it’s them against the world. If they see me speak up I do fear them trying to sabotage me with my past as they knew my life story. I’ve accepted my past but I know they may try lie or twist it. Idk if I’m ready for the potential backlash. Do you have any advice on if I do decide to speak up? Or for anyone else who’s afraid bc of smear campaigns etc. I know these types of people see anything as an attack but I wouldn’t be doing it for that it would be to help others like you are doing

Mr. Taymore,

Yes, others have experienced similar encounters. I learned a lot about psychopathy (predators) as a result. Healing takes a long time. I’m still healing, learning how to sleep and eat and take proper care of myself. You aren’t “stupid” or “weak”. It is literally how psychopaths operate.

As regards your very precious sobriety, do not let her win. I heard a woman speak who has a business called Mentally Strong. She lost 3 children and her husband. When asked how she copes and continues, her response was 1) Choose life. Every day, choose your own life. 2) Do not give up. I loved that she did not add religious stuff or any psychobabble. So, as someone who has survived (not well or in a pretty fashion by any means) as well, I hope you choose life and do not give up….and never let her win. Thanks for putting your story out there. Sometimes I cannot even rehash my experience or I feel like it makes me feel out of control emotionally, dystegulated, so I write a lot in a journal. To echo The Armchair Dweller below, “team Cody all the way”.

You’ve touched on this “therapist” a few times…

Each time I hear you speak about them, my fucking skin crawls that there are people out there posing as help.

You’re smashing it out here and she was right about absolutely fuck all.

Team Cody all the way 🙌🏼

I hope you stay forever well, brother 🫵🏼❤️

Crazy stuff! I had a similar experience some time ago, but on a smaller scale. After that, I focused on introspection to see what I did wrong. My conclusion was that opening up too much and showing too much vulnerability can invite people to take advantage. My plan after that was to continue being polite and act ethically with others, but my approach was to always start by not trusting anyone. I begin with a default suspicion of people's intentions. They need to earn my trust, not the other way around, as I see people usually do. I might sound picky, but that has helped me avoid any repetitions of that situation. I'm really sorry for what you've been through. In my opinion, there are more narcissists / manipulators around than the world realizes. Please be aware!
