This is, by far, one of the best (and bravest) things I've ever read - thank you!
I might add that this goes for partisan politics everywhere, even here in Europe, despite most Americans believing it's different/better. While most countries here don't have the classic two-party system the U.S. has (there are usually more groups screaming at each other), similar dynamics and division tactics can be observed.
That's the thing, you can try to wake people up or warn them but then they point the finger at you and say you are the troublemaker. The slaves protect their masters!
Thank you for saying EXACTLY what I've been thinking, but have been too scared to speak out loud. The hypocrisy I see in so many people I know on both sides aggravates me greatly, and we spend so much time on partisan slop that it almost seems like a distraction that's perpetuated by the political machine in this country to cover their asses...
You can vote without being part of a party. You can vote without 100% belief in a party. You can only choose not to vote when none of the fascist policies are bothering your life at the moment. For all you have been through, you are still a cis, het, white, able bodied, financially successful man who benefits from all of the privilege that goes along with it. I don't mean privilege in the sense of no harm, I mean privilege in the sense of how much harder those difficulties would have been if any of those categories were different.
Think about any of those difficulties. Now imagine that you were a Black woman having the same difficulty. What extra problems emerge? If you honestly can't think of any, take five minutes to research it.
In my humble opinion, I would replace the words "Democrat" and "Republican" as well as "cult" with "Extremist". To me, it's ok to be a republican or a democrat if you sit mostly in the center but sometimes have views one standard deviation to the right and the left. It's when you're all on one side or have opinions that are two or more standard deviations to the right or the left that one becomes extreme.
2. The problem is corruption. In the 1980s-1990s, Republicans CONSISTENTLY passed laws, court rulings, etc removing all barriers to bribery and corruption. Back in the 90s, Dems had one choice (BECAUSE CITIZENS WERE NOT DOING THEIR JOB, white citizens, in particular) was to capitulate or play. There was really no choice.
3. Corruption ANYWHERE is bad. The solution is for people to PARTICIPATE, not do this performative BULLSHIT. Where were YOU? Where were your FRIENDS? I guarantee not doing enough.
4. Stomping your little feet like a tantrum child feels good, but are you young adults getting any HINT of reality that it DOES NOTHING to fix the problem. It might have worked with your helicopter moms, but it's not going to work here.
5. What is the answer then? GET UP AND PARTICIPATE. Choose your group and JOIN. Do something. Get your friends to DO SOMETHING. Join the Dems and OVERWHELM any bad influences.
THAT IS HOW DEMOCRACY WORKS.
Stop behaving like a toddler and get UP AND LEAD. Be good. Be decent. Stop tantrumming and DO DEMOCRACY or lose it.

"I believe the system is designed to keep us fighting each other so we don’t notice who’s actually robbing us blind."
💯 Absolutely, couldn't have said it better myself!
Yes... Yet it's frightening how so many can (or choose to?) remain blind to something so obvious 😒
That's the thing, you can try to wake people up or warn them but then they point the finger at you and say you are the troublemaker. The slaves protect their masters!
Exactly!
Always refreshing when someone consistently walks his talk regardless of consequences or raised eyebrows.

I’m a Black Woman who agrees with the author and is done voting for any party. No debate.
I think you came very close to nailing it.

This is fantastic! Thank you for putting into words what I have been feeling 🙏
I hate to point this out but:
1. Both parties are NOT the same.
2. The problem is corruption. In the 1980s-1990s, Republicans CONSISTENTLY passed laws, court rulings, etc removing all barriers to bribery and corruption. USE IT OR LOSE IT.
CBS just censored journalists. Owned by Paramount.
You can also vote Green.
couldn't agree more with everything you've written and how clearly you've said it. thank you for this <3
Yup. 💯%
